The Department of Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) is the federal government’s directive for requiring comprehensive safeguards in information systems used by all federal and nonfederal entities working with the federal government in order to protect Compartmentalized Unclassified Information (CUI). The deadline for compliance with DFARS is December 31, 2017, and compliance must be ongoing thereafter.
Individuals with information system development life cycle responsibilities (e.g., program managers, mission/business owners, information owners/stewards, system designers and developers, information system/security engineers, systems integrators)
Individuals with information system, security, and/or risk management and oversight responsibilities (e.g., authorizing officials, chief information officers, chief information security officers, information system owners, information security managers)
Individuals with information security assessment and monitoring responsibilities (e.g., auditors, system evaluators, assessors, independent verifiers/validators, analysts)
